As the President and CEO of Setauket, Long Island-based Advancedfolio Capital Management, Eric Peter Weschke has been helping people shape their financial futures for nearly three decades, earning recognition as a trusted financial educator and industry leader.
His extensive experience, combined with a passionate dedication to his clients, makes him a respected adviser in financial planning and asset management, who has been advising high net worth families and individuals, as well as business owners, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs for more than 29 years.
“Helping people attain a secure future and having confidence in their financial plan are the main reasons I became a financial advisor,” Weschke explains. This mission is reflected in the firm’s approach to strategic planning, emphasizing transparency, efficiency, and long-term growth.
Weschke’s extensive background in institutional investment theory and comprehensive financial planning, focusing on tax-efficient retirement income solutions, asset protection, and risk management, gives him the expertise to offer comprehensive and personal service to his clients.
Building Client Relationships Across the Country
A career that has included roles as a financial educator, radio host of “Smart Planning Radio,” and national speaker for various corporations on retirement planning has made Weschke a name brand in the world of financial investments. Over the years, he has also developed an extensive background in institutional investment theory, tax-efficient retirement income strategies, asset protection, and risk management.
With clients nationwide, Eric Weschke is known in states across the country. For clients and potential clients who are at a distance, meetings are held on Zoom. To ensure client confidence about meeting remotely, Weschke says he makes sure that the firm covers all of its bases with transparent data and math to back up the facts presented in these meetings.
His relationships with clients are paramount. Weschke stays in constant communication with them, building trusted relationships. “One piece of advice that I received early on is to always treat others as I would like to be treated, ” Weschke says. I learned this at a very early age, and probably one of the first things I remember learning while growing up.” It’s a lesson that bodes well for clients.
Mentoring the Next Generation of Finance Professionals
After so many years of experience, Weschke enjoys taking young financial professionals under his wing. “When mentoring younger advisors it’s important to find out exactly where they are as far as education and knowledge go first, and then start to work with them to expand their knowledge base and skill set so they become more comfortable handling the many different tasks that come up when working with clients,” Weschke explains.
When identifying someone with potential in the financial advisory field, the traits Weschke says he looks for are an interest level in finance, the ability to learn like a sponge, a relentless work ethic, and the character trait of wanting to help others on a day-to-day basis.
Mentoring others has really helped broaden the respect of many clients when they see how involved Advancedfolio Capital Management is in giving and helping others. Weschke points out that the platforms that he and other financial advisers at his firm are quoted in and featured on are getting a lot of attention from prospective clients as well as the industry peers who have noticed how involved they are in helping others.
While Weschke says the way he mentors hasn’t really changed much over the years, he does delegate more often when necessary and only gets more involved when it’s important enough that his work experience will provide more value.
Weschke finds that the most rewarding aspect of serving as a mentor is seeing how he is impacting the person’s abilities to grow and excel in the field of financial planning. “Making an impact on others is always a gift because you can really see how you are helping that person get to the next level,” he says.
Eric Peter Weschke values the mentoring relationships he has had over the years in his own career, which is one of the reasons he believes so strongly in mentoring others. He notes that it is important to look for certain qualities in a mentor. He looks for individuals who have mastered the craft that he wants to excel in. “I would look for a polished and well-spoken
individual who is able to provide any sort of guidance on overcoming obstacles along my journey,” he adds.
The Value of Long-Term Relationships
Weschke maintains meaningful, long-term relationships with both his own mentors as well as those he has guided in the industry. “I always think it’s important to check in every so often to stay relevant. I remember reaching out to the CEO of a company whose products I used to work with, and he was so happy to hear from me, and to this day we are really good friends who would always be there if assistance was needed in business and in life.”
Keeping in touch with people from the past is very important, Weschke points out, stressing the importance of keeping those relationships current and staying up to date with what past mentors are doing now. “It is always nice to call someone and say ‘Hi, just thinking about you and wanted to see how you are doing’,” he says.
When choosing people to learn from—whether professionally or personally, Weschke looks for someone who has mastered the craft in an area in which they want to excel. “I would look for a polished and well-spoken individual who is able to provide any sort of guidance on overcoming obstacles along my journey,” he says.
As he looks back over his nearly 30-year career, Eric Peter Weschke says that because he represented several organizations over the years, there was not one certain person who guided his career, but each individual company brought education and value to the table. “The lessons learned, and that I still work with today, are to give 100% to each task at hand and finish what you start completely so everyone involved is happy with the outcome,” Weschke says.Disclaimer: This digital asset is for informational purposes only and does not constitute financial advice.
